PREP SWIMMING/TENNIS ROUNDUP: Marysville-Pilchuck freshman posts two state qualifying times

Published 11:35 pm Thursday, September 10, 2009

MARYSVILLE — Freshman swimmer Hannah Taylor impressed with two wins, and the Marysville-Pilchuck swim team used its depth in a 111-74 non-league dual-meet win over Sehome Thursday afternoon at Marysville-Pilchuck.

Taylor, who also swims with the Marysville Marlins club team, won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minute, 7.58 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (59.80) with 4A state qualifying times — her time in the 200 IM is also an All-American Consideration time.

Taylor also was part of the Tomahawks’ winning 200 medley relay team.

“Hannah Taylor was our shining star,” Marysville-Pilchuck head coach Jaci LeGore Hodgins said. “She’s really established herself in the last six months … she’s really been showing she’s the real deal.”

The Tomahawks used superior team depth to score points despite winning just three individual events and the one-meter diving.

“We started out really well, from then on out what was really exciting was … in every event we scored points,” LeGore Hodgins said. “We held our own in the relays — our depth won the meet.”

M-P senior Sarah Clark easily won the diving portion of the meet with 229.20 points; Sehome’s Katie Davis took second place with 130.05 points.

“We have a very consistently solid team,” LeGore Hodgins said.
