"Practical" is the new luxury

Coveted building
On Sept. 23, 1959, the Port of Everett fell just short of securing voter approval of a bond measure to buy property on the waterfront.
Presumably, the port also had its eye on that state-of-the-art Collins Building nearby.
Belt-tightening: The wealthy have decided, in the spirit of the recession, to choose more practical fashions such as an $1,800 wool dress that can be worn to a business luncheon with Anna Wintour as well as a cocktail party hosted by Henry and Nancy Kissinger.
What a fine example for the rest of us. Why, that 1950s wool sport coat you found in Dad’s closet will look professional at a job interview and keep you warm at the farmers market while you try to sell birdhouses.
Wonder why? A survey finds that business owners have the most job satisfaction, even though they work longer hours and make less money on average than executives and professionals.
If this seems like a contradiction, allow The Buzz to spell it out for you: N-O B-O-S-S-E-S.
