SEATTLE — The University of Washington football team will have to play without one of its top wide receivers on Saturday.
Coach Steve Sarkisian said Thursday that Devin Aguilar, who ranks fourth on the team with seven receptions, will not play against Stanford due to a sprained medial collateral ligament. Aguilar suffered the injury at Wednesday’s practice.
Sarkisian said that sophomore Cody Bruns will likely see extended playing time with Aguilar sidelined.
Aguilar was one of several players to sit out Thursday’s practice. Freshman receiver James Johnson (shoulder) and starting guard Senio Kelemete (illness) did not practice but are expected to play against Stanford on Saturday.
The news wasn’t as good for reserve lineman Craig Noble. The redshirt freshman has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and might not ever play football again, Sarkisian said.
Noble was a high-profile recruit who was recently moved from defense to offense.
Sarkisian said that the heart condition is not life-threatening and that Noble should be able to live a normal life outside of football.
