Highway 528 crash kills Lake Stevens man

MARYSVILLE — One man died Monday after his truck struck a utility pole on Highway 528 in Marysville.

The 46-year-old Lake Stevens man was driving west in a 1982 GMC pickup just before 7:30 a.m. That’s when the truck crossed the eastbound traffic lane and hit the pole, Marysville police spokesman Robb Lamoureaux said.

Crews from the Marysville Fire Department tried to save the man’s life, fire spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said. A rescue helicopter was called, but crews later canceled that request, she said.

The man was dead at the scene, Lamoureaux said. He was the only person in the truck.

Police don’t know why the truck crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and left the road, he said.

About 8,000 homes and businesses lost power until about 8:45 a.m., Snohomish PUD spokesman Neil Neroutsos said.

Highway 528 was closed between 76th Avenue NE and Highway 9 for most of the day Monday. It was expected to re-open late Monday evening.
