PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Glacier Peak edges Kamiak, 2-1

MUKILTEO — Glacier Peak and Kamiak came into Tuesday night’s girls soccer contest just one game into conference play, and Glacier Peak rebounded from its conference-opening defeat to beat Kamiak 2-1.

Kamiak head coach Beth Stewart said the game was played pretty even in the first half, but a Brooke Gilbert goal (Stephenie Cummings assist) in the 19th minute gave the Grizzlies an edge going into halftime.

“It was off a cross and a perfectly placed header,” Stewart said. “There was nothing we could do about that. It was a beautiful goal.”

Glacier Peak (1-1-0 league, 6-2-1 overall) added a second goal 25 minutes into the second half when Sami Boggs scored on what Stewart called, “a defensive error.”

According to Stewart, both teams had eight shots in the first half and seven in the second half.

“Glacier Peak just did a great job of controlling the ball. I think they dominated the center midfield,” Stewart said.

Kamiak (1-1-0, 5-2-2) scored a goal in the 76th minute by Hillary Hermes (Megan Blocker assist).

“My team battled back at the end,” Stewart said. “We had a couple of really close opportunities.”

Nicole Giovine played goalkeeper for Glacier Peak, as did Tana Foster for Kamiak.

Edmonds-Woodway 1, Shorewood 0 (shootout): At Shoreline, Edmonds-Woodway outshot Shorewood 5-4 in penalty kicks to earn the Wesco South victory. Kelsey Jang played goalkeeper for Shorewood (1-1-0 league, 5-3-1). Kristin Lyshall was in goal for Edmonds-Woodway (1-1-0, 5-1-3).

Mountlake Terrace 5, Lynnwood 0: At Mountlake Terrace, Takara Mitsui recorded her second shutout of the season, and Mountlake Terrace is now 2-0 in the Wesco South, 2-6-1 overall. Erin Russell scored in the 32nd minute, with an assist by Kaitie Higgins. Amanda Schnee then scored back-to-back goals in the 35th and 38th minutes with assists by Erin Russell. Rachel Fesler scored the fourth goal unassisted in the 75th minute, and Lynnwood (0-2, 1-8) scored on itself in the 78th minute.

Jackson 2, Shorecrest 0: At Everett, Lori DeLand had a long throw in that Cara Wegner kicked in mid-air, rocketing it hard enough to the goal that it bounced off Shorecrest goalie Chelsey Doyle and Wegner stuck with it and struck it in for Jackson’s second goal of the game. Jackson improved to 2-0 in league, 8-0-1 overall. Jackson freshman Carlie Howard scored the first goal with an assist by Taylor Hutchens in the 38th minute. Kayla Beer and KC Wilson split goalie duties for Jackson. Shorecrest is now 0-2, 3-4-2.

Meadowdale 8, Mariner 0: At Lynnwood, Mackenzie Stapleton and Kari Beaulieu scored two goals apiece, and Marcail McDonald added one goal and two assists to lead Meadowdale to the Wesco South win over Mariner (0-2 league, 0-9 overall). Brittany Evarts, Maddi Null and Shannon Dempsey also scored, and Hannah Landerholm added an assist for the Mavericks (2-0, 5-3-1).

Monroe 5, Oak Harbor 0: At Oak Harbor, Casey Neumann had a hat trick and Alecia Longsine and Whitney Siler added goals for Monroe in the Bearcats’ Wesco North victory. Dani Philippart recorded the shutout for Monroe (4-3-2 in league and overall) and Maggie Gorman was the goalkeeper for Oak Harbor (0-9, 0-9).

Cascade 3, Snohomish 2 (shootout): At Snohomish, Cascade (2-5-2 league and overall) earned the Wesco North victory by outshooting Snohomish 5-4 in penalty kicks. Cascade goalkeeper Rachel Leupold stopped the final Snohomish shooter to earn the win. Cascade’s goals were scored by Hannah Dowdell in the first minute and Sam Munger in the 17th minute. Lauren Johnson (Courtney Johnson assist) and Courtney Johnson (Leah Athmann) scored for Snohomish. Ashley Holten and Melissa Dreves split time in goal for the Panthers (5-4-0, 5-4-0).

Everett 6, Arlington 0: At Arlington, freshman CJ Shaver entered Everett’s game with Arlington scoreless in the first eight games of her high school career. The young Seagull midfielder left the field Tuesday with not only her first goal but her first hat trick. She was twice assisted by Annie Sittauer (2nd minute, 67th). Sittauer had the second goal of the game thanks to a pass from Kylie Beeson (11th). Beeson scored next (31st) assisted by Maddie Reed. Beeson recorded her second assist of the night in the 72nd minute on Shaver’s third — and the game’s final — goal. Haley Ayers used a pass from Makaela Nellams to score in the 67th minute. Chelsea Boulton and Casandra Lake each allowed three goals for Arlington (2-7 league, 2-7 overall). Everett (9-0, 9-0) goalkeeper Katie Johnson recorded the shutout.

Archbishop Murphy 5, Granite Falls 0: At Granite Falls, the Tigers has no answer for Murphy’s Lindsey Bos. The senior midfielder recorded a hat trick and added an assist for the Wildcats in the Cascade Conference game. Caroline Brawner was on the receiving end of the assist for her only goal of the game and Sam Pettinger added an unassisted goal. Archbishop Murphy’s (8-0 league, 9-0 overall) keeper Alexa Hughes shut out the Tigers. Courtney Young took the loss in goal for Granite Falls (3-5, 5-5).

Lakewood 1, South Whidbey 0: At Marysville, Lakewood’s defense gained control of the ball, passed it to center midfieleer Kelsey Anderson, who slotted a pass to Maddie Chamberlin, and Chamberlin drilled a goal into the far post in the 11th minute, improving Lakewood’s record to 7-1 in league, 9-1 overall. Miranda Head recorded her sixth shutout of the season for Lakewood, which outshot South Whidbey 18-6. South Whidbey (2-6, 3-7) had Tasha Kamps in goal.

King’s 2, Coupeville 0: At Shoreline, King’s had two first-half goals in the Cascade Conference win. The Knights (6-2 league, 7-2 overall) outshot the Wolves (1-6, 3-6) 28-2. Emily Fretland capitalized on a feed from Taylor Hauck in the 16th minute. Hillary Zevenbergen set up Anna Diede for a score in the 37th minute. Megan Smith allowed both goals for the Wolves and was relieved by Cassie Babcock. Maddy Mc Devitt posted a shutout for the Knights in goal.

Cedarcrest 12, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Ashton Griffen had two goals and three assists and Maggie Pleis had two goals to lead Cedarcrest to the Cascade Conference victory over Sultan (0-8 league, 0-10 overall). Kendall Eldredge, McKenna Swanson, Jessica Hinton, Cortney Decker, Clare O’Donnell, Gwen Bieck, Laura Hisler, Katie Walsh and Erica Debrecht all had one goal for Cedarcrest. Kori Butterfield started at goalkeeper for Cedarcrest (5-3, 6-3). Jordan Cleman relieved Butterfield in the second half.

Boys soccer

Providence Classical Christian 5, Orcas Island 0: At Lynnwood, Providence Classical Christian (3-2-2) dispatched Orcas Island (2-2-1) with a second-half furry. After getting just a goal from Andrew Moisant (assisted by Eric Moisant) in the first half, the Highlanders exploded beginning in the 51st minute. Ryan Morris scored on a penalty kick followed by an Eric Moisant goal assisted by Caleb Moisant in the 55th minute. Jonathan Leegwater was assisted by Andrew Moisant in the 64th minute. Beau Butaud closed the scoring in the 69th minute thanks to an assist from Harrison Hummel. All the scoring got by Orcas goalkeeper Fernando Arevalo. Luke Morris had a clean sheet for PCC.

Shoreline Christian 5, Grace Academy 0: At Shoreline, Travis Hudson had a goal in each half. Keith Jacobs, Jack Kim and Jin Suk Seo also found the back of the net for the Crusaders.

Mount Vernon Christian 2, North Sound Christian 1: At Mountlake Terrace, A goal in the 80th minute gave Mount Vernon Christian (4-3) the non-league victory after trailing for most of the contest. Hurricanes goalkeeper Caleb Brown allowed North Sound Christian’s Sang Kim to score with an assist by John Dresler in the 33rd minute. After that score, Brown kept the Lions at bay and North Sound keeper Dallas Van Ess allowed two scores in the second half.
