A failed physical, a snag in the trade?

Bob Elliott, a writer for the Toronto Sun, has just written via Twitter that one of the minor leaguers involved in the trades that will bring Cliff Lee to the Mariners has failed a physical exam.

No hint yet which player it is — there are seven minor leaguers involved in all — or how it may impact the trades.

An Associated Press report that moved a few minutes ago said Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. was “hopeful” that the trade could be wrapped up today but might take another day.

Shi Davidi of the Canadian Press also wrote, via Twitter, that it wasn’t the Mariners’ Phillippe Aumont who failed the physical.

Of the three minor leaguers the Mariners would trade to the Philadelphia Phillies, Aumont has the most checkered health history. He has dealt with a hip condition for years and suffered through elbow problems much of 2008, but pitched 43 games this year for the Mariners’ Class A High Desert and AA West Tennessee teams.
