HONORS

VFW recognizes Eagle Scout’s efforts

The Honor Guard of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 in Lynnwood presented Eagle Scout Josh Latimer of Troop 465 with a VFW Eagle Scout Certificate of Recognition for his achievement and leadership ability.

Latimer earned many badges and completed an Eagle Scout project that involved building a foot bridge over wetlands at 92nd Street Park in Mukilteo. His troop is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lynnwood.

Financial advisor earns service award

The Financial Planning Association of Puget Sound presented Diane Jochimsen with the 2009 Professional Service Award.

She is president of White Raven Financial Services located in the Sisco Heights area in Arlington.

Fire District 3 adds new commissioners

Bill Snyder was officially sworn in as Monroe Fire District 3 fire commissioner on Jan. 11.

He was elected to a six-year term.

The board of commissioners also introduced Jeff Frye, who was selected to fill the vacancy left by fire commissioner Mark Mechling who resigned last year because of health concerns.

Sertoma Club honors therapist

The Everett Sertoma Club presented their 2009 Service to Mankind Award to Sarah Junkin-Clark at its annual dinner awards program Jan. 9 at the Everett Elks Club.

The award is given to a non-Sertoma member who exhibits outstanding leadership and service to the community.

Junkin-Clark is an occupational therapist for the Washington Elks Therapy Program for Children Inc. She has been employed with the program since February 1992 and has served more than 525 children and provided 12,600 one-hour therapy sessions.

She has been married to her husband, Art, for 23 years. They have one daughter, Rachel.

GIVING

City Bank helps kids get bicycles

Greg Noren, vice president of marketing for City Bank, recently presented a $20,000 check for Kids on Wheels to Christmas House president Rick Kvangnes.

With this donation from City Bank, Christmas House purchased more than 350 new bicycles and tricycles and gave them to children from qualifying low-income families throughout Snohomish County.

Students sell cocoa for Haitian relief

Everett residents Scott Azure, Allison Endreson, Lydia Hawkins, Griffin Townsend, Kira Villarose and Isabel Zyla spent their day off from school on Monday selling cocoa to raise money for the relief effort in Haiti.

They had a stand on Puget Park Drive at 138th Place SE in the Silver Firs neighborhood. They plan to sell cocoa at the same corner from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Endreson, Hawkins, Villarose and Zyla are in the fifth grade at Silver Firs Elementary School. Azure is a sophomore at Sequoia High School and Townsend is a sophomore at Jackson High School.
