Coco’s farewell: Jay Leno’s return to NBC’s “Tonight Show” was paved with a final settlement between the network and current host Conan O’Brien. In return for O’Brien’s exit, the red-headed stepchild will reportedly get $32 million and another $12 million for his staff.
Because the move cost so much, NBC will cut some corners on “The Tonight Show” when Leno returns: Episodes will be taped from Leno’s bedroom. Leno will have to buy his own subscriptions for his headlines bit. And, in lieu of a house band, audience members will be handed kazoos.
Here’s the pitch: Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez signed his $78 million contract, snapping in one more piece for the M’s.
Noting that his departure from the Mariners pitching staff made King Felix’s deal possible, disabled-list veteran Erik Bedard demanded that the M’s pay him severance of $32 million and another $12 million for his rehab staff.
Get what you pay for: The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that corporations are free to spend as much as they wish to sway voters in federal elections.
As part of the ruling, members of Congress will now be identified not by state but by their largest corporate donor.
