Battle of the bands

Results are out for the “School of the Rock Battle of the Bands” competition.

High school pep bands from around Western Washington entered arrangements of classic rock songs with videos.

Puyallup High School won the $10,000 first prize from The Rock Wood-Fired Pizza &Spirits.

Lake Stevens High School won a $750 pizza party for their rendition of “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” by AC/DC.

Thursday is The Herald’s 109th birthday. It was first published on Feb. 11, 1901.

Talk history in Mukilteo: The general meeting of the Mukilteo Historical Society is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday in the basement art room of Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave. in old town Mukilteo.

This month’s speaker is Mukilteo City Council member Jennifer Gregerson, who offers a program about the N.J. Smith Building, currently a Mexican restaurant on Second Street, and believed to be one of the oldest buildings in Mukilteo.

Gregerson recently completed research on the building as part of her coursework in historic preservation. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Port Commission retreat: The Everett Port Commission plans a retreat from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and Thursday at Vigilant Conference Suites, 6003 23rd Drive W., Everett.
