PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Shorecrest ousts Everett from district

Published 11:25 pm Friday, February 26, 2010

SNOHOMISH — After a one-point loss against Ferndale in the first round of the 3A District 1 tournament on Tuesday that placed Shorecrest in the consolation bracket, Friday’s game was a matter of postseason survival.

Luckily for the Scots, they jumped to an early 40-23 lead at halftime and coasted to a 66-48 victory against Everett at Glacier Peak High School.

“We took control and slowly built the lead,” said Shorecrest coach Brian Fischer. “We held them off and even got to rest our starters in the fourth quarter.”

Seniors Isaiah Clevenger (23 points) and Jordan Brown (13 points) led the Scots in scoring.

“(Both Clevenger and Brown) did a great job finishing shots and pushing the lead up,” said Fischer.

Shorecrest advances to play Mount Vernon in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Monday at Glacier Peak High School. The Scots must win their next three games to advance to state. Everett’s season ended with the loss.

“We just did what were supposed to do and got the win,” said Fischer.
