You don’t want to mess with our Dark Side: British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking says intelligent life almost certainly exists elsewhere in the universe, but attempting to communicate with alien races could be risky as it might attract the attention of nomads looking to colonize and conquer Earth.

It’s too late to take back messages we’ve already sent into space, but maybe we could bluff; tell the aliens we have a Death Star and we know how to use it.

  • There’s not an app for that: A national children’s education group is working to update guidelines for kids’ use of technology, including how much time they should be allowed in front of computer screens.

Our suggestion: Sending your kids outside to play doesn’t count if they take their iPads.

  • Skip the pea soup: The recent dark superhero flick “Kick-Ass” and its purple-haired ultraviolent tween Hit-Girl inspired a writer to compile a list of famous bad seeds in movies, including portrayals by Linda Blair in “The Exorcist” and Macaulay Culkin in “The Good Son.”

If you’re still looking for a Mother’s Day present, we recommend a DVD box set of all 11 movies listed, reminding mom that you didn’t turn out that badly after all.
