EVERETT – Snohomish County Public Utility District has opened a new 13,500-square-foot water operations building in Lake Stevens to accommodate the fast-growing northern Snohomish County area. The utility serves about 20,000 water customers in Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Arlington and several other smaller districts in the area.
“This new facility will greatly enhance the day-to-day operations of the water utility by consolidating staff for greater efficiencies and improving crew dispatch and emergency response,” said PUD general manager Steve Klein. “The facility was designed with cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency and the environment in mind.”
The water operations facility came in 40 percent below initial cost estimates, due in part to the timing of bids and economic conditions. It exceeds Washington State Energy Code by 10 percent. Some of the key sustainable features include:
The new site also includes additional warehouse and shop space, protected vehicle storage to extend the life of vehicles, a water lab for water quality testing and better access for heavy construction vehicles. The PUD built the facility to meet growth projections for the next 20 years and beyond.
The new facility functions as an operations facility for PUD staff and a service center for the developer/builder community. It is located at 3301 Old Hartford Road in Lake Stevens.
The PUD bill payment center will remain located at the PUD Headquarters in Everett. Water customers calling about connection fees or new water services will need to call a new phone number: 425-397-3000.
