“Play ‘Freebird’ ”: Performance artist Laurie Anderson staged her latest composition, “Music for Dogs” at the Sydney Opera House, playing thumping beats, whistles and high-pitched sounds that were audible only to the audience of canines.
It was difficult to tell if those in the Opera House appreciated the concert as it’s hard for a dog to gently sway as it holds a flaming lighter aloft in its paw.
Straighten up and fly right: Lorikeets, a type of parrot, are falling from the sky in northern Australia, apparently drunk on an unknown source of fermented food. The lorikeets are taken to a shelter and allowed to dry out before being released.
The birds most successful in maintaining their sobriety are those that admit they are powerless over fermented fruit and believe in a greater parrot than themselves.
Fill ’er up, then ease up: Gas prices aren’t likely to drop much as we approach summer, so we offer a few tips for reducing your fuel consumption. For instance, just reducing your speed to 62 mph from 75 can cut consumption 15 percent.
And if you need a little motivation, tape a photo near your gas gauge of an oil-soaked pelican or an unemployed shrimp fisherman.
