Challenge goal at Everett’s Forest Park: Fitness, helping kids

No matter how many hills you climb, it only takes half an hour.
Jane Lewis with the Everett Parks Department says to register at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday to promote wellness and take the Forest Park Hill Challenge.
Lewis mapped out hills and folks are encouraged to see how many they can walk up and down in 30 minutes. Each hill is different, she said.
“I am hosting a once a month series of hill climbs, and this will be our second one,” Lewis says. “You can do anything for 30 minutes. This is not a race, just a friendly fitness challenge.”
They walk from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
The challenge is free, but donations are welcome. The money raised goes into a scholarship fund to help kids get into classes this summer.
“It’s a win-win,” Lewis says.

Ghosts spotted in Snohomish?
PIHA, Paranormal Investigations of Historic America, is creating a series of video DVDs in our state featuring haunted locations.
They’ve scheduled a visit this week at Cabbage Patch Restaurant in Snohomish.
“Our paranormal group has investigated the Cabbage Patch Restaurant before,” says Vaughn Hubbard, PIHA case manager and historian. “I’ll tell you, that place is one of the spookiest historic locations that I have ever investigated.”

The group is interested in preserving historic sites as well as seeking out paranormal activity.
“I tell people that the only reason we even have these museums and historical sites available to us today is because of our forefathers’ work,” Hubbard says. “We have the same responsibility to support these historic locations for our grandchildren. For every piece of our history that we lose, we lose a piece of ourselves, forever.”

Folks who’ve been dying to wear their Darth Vader outfits have an outlet. Members of the 501st Legion Star Wars costuming organization will visit the Oak Harbor Library at 1 p.m. Saturday at 1000 SE Regatta Drive.

Adam Huxtable said a group of children in Mukilteo spent the day in another pursuit — selling lemonade.
