Gift-card-based economy?

Magic Kingdom: The Walt Disney Co. plans to build 30 multimillion-dollar homes on large lots in a new gated community at Disney World in Florida.

The project sounds like a hard sell in today’s economy, but, as always, the Mouse has a fallback plan: If the homes don’t sell, they’ll turn it into a Disney World attraction called Mickey and Minnie’s Adventures in Foreclosureland.

Gift exchange: Wondering whether to just pitch that $50 Michaels craft store gift card you can’t remember why you have? Guess what — you can sell the thing for cash money on the Web.

That said, we understand that certain sections of the Sun Belt are transitioning to a gift-card-based economy.

Extra innings: PBS will rebroadcast Ken Burns’ 1994 documentary, “Baseball” (TV Week).

At 18 1/2 hours, the series might be a tough slog for even the most devoted baseball fans. But it does go by much more quickly if you hit the fast-forward button whenever George F. Will appears on camera to laud baseball as “heaven’s gift to mortals,” or Garrison Keillor recites a Walt Whitman poem.
