Lake Stevens teens promote energy conservation

Lake Stevens High School cheerleaders are famous, by face.
I think we should at least know their names.
The young ladies featured on an advertisement on the sides of buses are Taylor Morgan, Page Thompson, Mackenzie Fitchner, McKenzie Wallace and Dani Montelongo.
Neil Neroutsos, spokesman for the Snohomish County PUD, says the students are featured on bus boards, cable television advertisements and newspaper print ads.
“We feature a collection of other local customers, including the Everett Fire Department, (auto dealer) Dwayne Lane, (Herald travel writer) Rick Steves and a barbershop quartet,” Neroutsos says. “It’s a fun and diverse group.”
The spots are to highlight a campaign to get people to conserve energy.
“PUD customers have heard energy conservation messages for more than 25 years,” he says. “One of the most significant challenges was making the subject fresh, appealing and relevant.”
The “Be a Conservation Sensation” campaign took an unconventional, outside-the-box approach to get attention, he says.
“By using real people from the community to share stories, the PUD made the campaign more genuine and believable. It used its own set of writers, graphic designers and a videographer.”
These are teensy-weensy itty-bitty bands.
Hummingbird expert Dan Harville will catch and band hummingbirds at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Edmonds Wildlife Habitat and Native Plant Demonstration Garden, 95 Pine St. in Edmonds.
Harville uses a net to catch the birds.
Laura Spehar, Edmonds Backyard Wildlife Habitat team leader, says folks don’t have to register for the workshop. Just show up and have a great morning, Spehar says.
Harville has been banding hummingbirds around the state for more than 10 years to help track populations.

Wow! Distributing, Inc. in Mukilteo offers an 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament, Barbecue Silent Auction and Raffle for a good cause.
Proceeds benefit Brandon’s Goal. Brandon Braun, 11, of Bothell, who had brain cancer, died March 20. He supported hospitals where he received treatments and surgeries.
The tournament is planned for July 30 at Harbour Pointe Golf Club, 11817 Harbour Pointe Blvd. in Mukilteo.
