Everett: Navy to host discussion of project
The Navy is asking the public to attend a community outreach event on Tuesday in Everett or Thursday in Langley to discuss a proposed maintenance and repair project at Naval Station Everett.
The Missile Defense Agency needs to perform maintenance work on its Sea-Based X-Band Radar vessel. The required maintenance can be accomplished only at a deepwater port, such as Everett’s.
The events in Everett and south Whidbey Island are designed to help people learn about the proposal and to get their comments for consideration in an environmental assessment.
The Everett open house is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Room 105, Whitehorse Hall, Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St.
The other is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Langley Middle School cafeteria, 723 Camano Ave.

Watch a movie under the stars at Silver Lake
Bring blankets or chairs to the Camp Patterson Field at Thornton Sullivan Park at Silver Lake, 11405 Silver Lake Road, to watch a free movie.
The city offers summertime movies on Fridays through Aug. 27. This Friday, “Monsters vs. Aliens” is scheduled to show.
Pre-movie entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m., and movies start at dusk.

Snohomish County: Days of Caring sign-ups
Volunteers can register for United Way’s Days of Caring, which is scheduled for Sept. 24 and 25 throughout Snohomish County.
Work includes painting, building, cleaning and environmental projects at nonprofit agencies, and reading to kids. Teams and individuals can go to www.uwsc.org and click on the Volunteer link at the top of the page to find a list of projects, which is being updated daily.
Last year, 1,062 people worked on 56 projects, volunteering more than 6,370 hours.

Mukilteo: Gulch work party is Saturday
Preservationists will gather in lower Japanese Gulch, 1201 Mukilteo Lane, at 1 p.m. Saturday for an afternoon of work to improve trails and habitat in the forested ravine.

Oak Harbor: Lions sell fruit for charity
The Oak Harbor Lions Club members plan to sell apricots, Rainier cherries and red haven peaches from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week until the stock is sold.
Look for the yellow trailer in the Rite Aid parking lot along Highway 20 in Oak Harbor.
All proceeds support community projects.
Snohomish: City Council applications
City officials are reminding interested residents to apply for a seat on the City Council.
City Councilman Randy Hamlin plans to leave office by Aug. 4. So far, the city has received only one application to fill his spot.
The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Aug. 4. The council may appoint Hamlin’s successor at a special meeting on Aug. 10.
The appointee will serve an abbreviated term, running through 2011, before seeking re-election. The position pays $450 per month.
