Dogs bags good; cheapskates bad

Published 3:19 pm Friday, August 6, 2010

I am writing in regard to the July 26 article about dog bags. (“Everett spends thousands for dog-waste bags”).

I am a dog owner. My dog goes almost everywhere with my husband and me. Hooked to the handle of the leash is a plastic container that has dog waste bags in it. And I always have an extra roll in my car in case I run out. But I must say I am probably not a normal pet owner. I am a responsible pet owner, as all should be.

I am glad the city has taken the upper hand to put in these bag stations, but what makes me so angry is the fact that they had to, and on top of that, I can’t tell you how many times I have seen people pull into the parks, get out of their cars, walk up to the bag stations, and remove eight to ten bags and get back in their car and leave. So, I am paying for my own bags to pick up my dog’s poop, and I am paying in a large way to pick up someone’s dog poop at their home and in the park, and I should feel good about this?

Why is there always some lazy or cheap person out there who has to ruin it for everyone? Why can’t everyone be more honest and responsible? I am not rich, but if I can’t afford the expense of a dog then I won’t have him. He is my sole responsibility, not the city’s, the county’s or the state’s, just mine. If we stopped supporting everyone, and made them stand on their own two feet, then maybe they would feel the same way.

Grow up, people. The rest of us are not your keepers.
