Arlington: Family martial arts offered

Arlington Parks and Recreation is offering a program for the entire family to get fit, have fun and learn self-defense skills.

The program teaches tae kwon do kicks, karate moves and kung fu stances. Classes are for ages 4 and up, all levels and abilities are welcome. Classes are planned for Sept. 10 through Oct. 22 at 135 French Ave., in the A building commons.

Darrington: Bike ride to benefit youth activities

The annual Whitehorse to White Chuck Bike Ride on the Mountain Loop Highway is sponsored this year by the Darrington Family Support and Resources Center and the Darrington School District. Proceeds from the event benefit youth activities in Darrington.

The ride starts at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at the bluegrass festival grounds on Highway 530. Prices are $40, $25 for children or $100 for two adults and two kids for lunch, snacks and T-shirts.

Marysville: Parks budget on agenda

The city of Marysville parks budget for 2009 is among the topics scheduled for discussion by the city Park Advisory Board on Wednesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Jennings Park Memorial Barn, 6915 Armar Road.

Also on the agenda are a mid-year review of the new Strawberry Fields for Rover off-leash dog park and action on a contract with the Marysville Historical Society.

Fall-winter rec guide available

The fall-winter 2009 edition of the Marysville Parks and Recreation Activities Guide is now available. The guide contains information on city classes and activities. Get copies at City Hall, 1049 State Ave., or online at www.ci.marysville.wa.us.

Stanwood: Center sets fall fundraisers

Stanwood Community and Senior Center has scheduled its fall fundraising events. All take place at the center, 7430 276th St. NW. All proceeds support the center’s programs and services, meal program, wellness activities, social activities and recreational activities.

The Harvest Jubilee pancake breakfast 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 19. The Octoberfest Celebration is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 with music by Hugo’s Accordion Band. The center’s Haunted House event is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31.
