Lake Stevens: E. Soper Hill Road reopens
The west end of E. Soper Hill Road is open again after crews rebuilt the intersection last week.
Crews closed access to E. Soper Hill Road on Aug. 30 as part of a $29 million project to widen Highway 9 between Lundeen Parkway and Soper Hill Road.
Work on E. Soper Hill Road included tearing out old pavement and repaving and restriping the intersection in preparation for the holiday weekend. Crews will let the asphalt cure for three weeks before returning to permanently stripe the road in late September.
The project is scheduled for completion in December 2011.

Chamber hosts class for updating computer
The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce plans to host a program to help people learn the tips and tricks of Windows 7 and Office 2010.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Services Center at 12309 22nd St. NE., in Lake Stevens.
The program is free to chamber members and $10 for non-members.
Those interested in attending must RSVP by Sept. 12.

Everett: Program teaches fall prevention
The Carl Gipson Senior Center in Everett plans a fall prevention seminar for adults 50 years and older. A registered physical therapist from Cascade Rehabilitation will lead the session. It will focus on how to prevent a broken leg, hip, knee or back.
No reservation is required. The session is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the center, located at 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett.

Watch a Civil War battle re-enactment
The Evergreen Cemetery plans to host a Civil War ceremony and battle re-enactment beginning at noon Saturday at 4405 Broadway Ave., Everett. The Washington Civil War Association will first present exhibits and the battle is planned for 1 p.m.
Spectators can watch the blue and the grays act out one of America’s most profound historic moments while munching on free hot dogs and pop.
A ceremony with musket and cannon salutes will follow at 2 p.m. at the Grand Army of the Republic Section near 41st and Broadway.
At 11:30 a.m., historian David Dilgard plans to lead a historical tour of the burial sites of famous and interesting people from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning at the cemetery office.
Mukilteo: Coastal designation talk
Valerie Steel, president of Historic Everett, will speak about a feasibility study considering whether part of the Washington coast should be designated as a National Heritage Area during the Mukilteo Historical Society’s monthly meetings at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave.
