Prep volleyball: Lake Stevens 3, Glacier Peak 1

LAKE STEVENS — The Lake Stevens Vikings opened their season with a 3-1 non-league win over Glacier Peak by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 17-25, 25-13 Thursday at Lake Stevens High School.

After controlling the first game from the outset, Lake Stevens fell behind in the second game before mounting a stong comeback to take the game, 25-23. Glacier Peak posted a win in the third game before the Vikings finished with their most dominating effort of the match.

Brooke Larsen led the Vikings with 12 kills. Marchelle Bostic had 36 assists. Brooke Balgleish added 26 digs.

Maddie Over had nine kills and 10 digs and Ruby Mensing added eight kills and three aces for Glacier Peak.

Lake Stevens returns eight seniors off its 2009 team, which finished third in the Wesco North and made a trip to the district playoffs.
