Give or take a day: Boeing has lined up a space tourism company to book flights on a passenger spacecraft, now on the drawing board, that it says will carry up to seven astronauts and passengers to the International Space Station. Boeing says the CST-100 should be ready by 2015.

Which means that sometime in 2015, the first Boeing 787 Dreamliners should just be starting service and ready to provide connecting flights to the launchpad.

  • Won’t you let me take you on a sea cruise: Washington State Ferries’ newest vessel is expected to begin its service on the Port Townsend-Coupeville route in late October or early November, about a month later than first scheduled.

The new ferry is named Chetzemoka, a Coast Salish Indian phrase for “Unless you’ve made an online reservation, you’ll have to wait for a later sailing.”

  • Smarter than the average bear: Naturalists are warning that a poor growing season in forests for berries and other natural forage for bears could mean more bears foraging in campgrounds and rural neighborhoods as they prepare for hibernation.

Keeping safety in mind, The Buzz has bought a robe in hunter orange so he’s not mistaken for a bear during midnight raids on the fridge.
