Learn: Mukilteo library offers classes
A series of classes is planned in the next few weeks at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. The following classes are offered:
ESL talk time: 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25. Led by trained instructors, this is a class for adults to practice English in a supportive environment.
Keepin’ Knit Real: 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 7 and Oct. 21. Knitters of all skill levels are welcome to share knowledge and build skills. Beginners should bring a pair of No. 8 or No. 9 needles and a skein of worsted-weight yarn.
Mukilteo Daytime Book Group: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 18. Discuss of “The Sunday Philosophy Club” by Alexander McCall Smith. The group meets the third Monday of each month.
Mukilteo Evening Book Group: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21. Discussion of “Charlatan: America’s Most Dangerous Huckster, the Man who Pursued Him, and the Age of Flimflam,” by Pope Brock. The group meets the third Thursday evening of every month.
Help: Volunteers needed at food bank
The Snohomish Community Food Bank is seeking 10 new volunteers for various weekly jobs.
Six positions are for client aides, from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays.
The volunteers would be helping the people who come to the food bank for their weekly groceries. The volunteers must be helpful, reliable, cheerful and strong.
Drivers also are needed for weekly grocery store runs. The requirements are: a valid Washington license with a clean record, the ability to pick up about 40 pounds and to commit two to three hours at a time.
A volunteer who is good at administrative work would be appreciated, too. This position could be filled any day between Monday and Thursday.
To apply, stop by the Snohomish Community Food Bank between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Thursday, ask for Elizabeth Grant and complete an application. The bank is at 1330 Ferguson Park Road.
Count: Help count bicycles, pedestrians
Mountlake Terrace is looking for volunteers to help count bicycles and pedestrians as part of the Washington State Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project.
Now in its third year, the project aims to provide cities and state agencies information about nonmotorized transport.
This is the first year Mountlake Terrace is participating. The count will include locations along the Interurban Trail, the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center, and near Mountlake Terrace Elementary School.
Volunteers will conduct the count during the morning and evening commutes Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, coordinated through the Cascade Bicycle Club.

Study: Citizenship classes offered
Free, drop-in citizenship classes at being offered at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W., at 7 p.m. starting Oct. 14.
The classes help students prepare for their U.S. citizenship tests.
