MARYSVILLE — Cascade’s Dylan Hopper captured first place under the lights at the Tomahawk Twilight cross country meet Saturday evening at Cedarcrest Golf Course.

The Tomahawk Twilight meet is run under the remaining rays of sunshine, instead of the usual morning hours, to create a different atmosphere for athletes and fans along the rolling, 3.1-mile golf course route.

“The kids run in twilight along the golf course,” Cascade head coach Steve Bertrand said. “It’s very spectator-friendly, it’s a unique experience from that standpoint.”

Hopper completed the course in 15 minutes, 46.37 seconds for the third-place Bruins boys squad.

“That’s a good time (for Hopper),” Bertrand said of his team leader.

Inglemoor (101 points) took home the boys team title, with Kentwood finishing in second place with 117 points, just three points ahead of Cascade (120). Also, Everett (160) placed sixth and Shorewood (171, seventh), Stanwood (273, ninth) and Arlington (287, tenth) round out the top teams.

Cascade’s Aaron Campbell placed fourth overall with a time of 16:19.18 and Arlington’s James Clark (16:25.96) placed eighth, just ahead of Shorewood’s Joe Gladow (16:28.61).

“I thought the Arlington girls ran pretty well,” Marysville-Pilchuck head coach and meet coordinator Randall Edens said. “Stanwood was pretty solid, as they should be, but they’re not running quite as healthy as they should be at this juncture.”

Arlington placed second overall with 142 points, the Eagles’ top finishers were Teresa Wadey (19:43.46) in 19th place and Kristin Wreggelsworth (19:57.98) in 24th.
