Prep girls soccer: Kamiak 2, Lake Stevens 1 (shootout)

LAKE STEVENS — Kamiak needed a shootout, but it got a Wesco 4A victory over Lake Stevens to clinch a berth in the 4A District 1 soccer playoffs.
“It was a hard fought victory,” Kamiak coach Beth Stewart said. “They gave us a heck of a battle.”
Emma Makela lifted the Knights to a 4-3 win in the shootout. Makela stopped two shots and also scored one of the goals for Kamiak.
“She loves them (shootouts), she’s like ‘Bring it on.’ She stepped up big time with two saves,” Stewart said.
With the shootout tied 3-3 going into the final shot, Makela made a save and Megan Blocker found the back of the net for Kamiak on the next shot.
Elizabeth Gross (Rachel Rinke assist) scored Kamiak’s goal in regulation. Ciara Carter (Brooke Pahukoa) was the goalscorer for Lake Stevens (6-4-0 league, 7-4-0 overall).
Tana Foster started in goal for Kamiak (9-1-0, 10-1-1) and Makela relieved her for the second half and the shootout. Kiaya Paulsen was the goalkeeper for Lake Stevens.
