Lynnwood got off to a slow start again and it cost the Royals dearly.
Glacier Peak scored five touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 49-6 win in a Western Conference 3A football game Oct. 9 at Edmonds Stadium.
“They scored, it seemed to be on just every possession,” said Lynnwood coach Dorian Manza. “They were very tough for us to stop. Their offense was super explosive, We were outgunned at a lot of positions. Their team speed was a lot more than we could handle.”
Lynnwood’s lone score was a 68-yard touchdown run by senior running back Typhis Cochran in the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies were led by Alex Stepanchenko, who caught four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 106 yards on 10 carries and scored two TDs.
“Their quarterback was outstanding. They’re well coached and very well disciplined,” Manza said. “They’re just a very good football team. I think they’ll go pretty deep in the playoffs. We could have played better against them.”
Lynnwood fell to 0-2 in the league and 0-6 overall, while Glacier Peak improved to 1-1 and 4-2.
The Royals face Shorecrest at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16 at Shoreline Stadium.
