MARYSVILLE — Tylor Klep quarterbacked Marysville-Pilchuck to an important win over Wesco 4A North rival Lake Stevens.
Klep, the Tomahawks senior quarterback, carried 12 times and finished with 95 yards and four touchdowns. Fullback Tyler Thompson ran for 152 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.
The two teams finished with almost identical total yardage — 368 for Lajke Stevens to 349 for the Tomahawks — yet Marysville held a 21-0 lead at halftime and was up 35-6 in the fourth quarter before the Vikings added a couple late scores.
The reason? Turnovers. The Tomahawks defense forced six total, getting three in each half and capitalized each time.
Each team is now 2-2 in league.
