SHORELINE — Makaela Nellams was very busy Tuesday night.

The junior forward scored two goals and assisted on Everett’s other two, leading the Seagulls to a 4-0 Wesco 3A girls soccer win over Shorecrest and propeling Everett over the Scots in the conference standings.

“At this point we’re just getting ourselves ready for districts,” Everett head coach Kosta Pitharoulis said. “Especially with that first round of districts being loser out. You want to set yourself up as best as possible.”

Sophomore Haley Ayers struck first for the Seagulls in the 52nd minute, followed by Gabrielle Wagonblast, who scored 10 minutes later.

Nellams added her two late goals — off assists from Ayers and Khadija Tarver — in the 73rd and 75th minutes, shooting the ball past Shorecrest goalkeeper Frida Swensen.

“They’re all big games at this point,” Pitharoulis said. “Before today, Shorecrest was ahead of us in the standings.”

Everett goalkeeper Hanna Vanucie recorded the shutout.

Pitharoulis complimented his dependable defense, made up of Ashley Simons, Tarver, Rosie Sittauer and CJ Shaver, for helping secure the Seagulls’ win.

“They all did an outstanding job tonight and made it tough on Shorecrest,” he said. “The whole defensive line has really done a good job all season. The defense is kind of the unsung heroes.”

Everett (8-3 league, 9-3-1 overall, 24 points) and Shorecrest (7-5, 7-7, 23) are both well behind conference leader Glacier Peak (11-0, 12-0-1, 32) which was idle on Tuesday. The Grizzlies host the Seagulls on Thursday in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference.

“That’s another big game,” Pitharoulis said. “As we were packing up after tonight’s game we’re already talking about the Glacier Peak game.”
