Logic falters in recent letter

I was surprised to read Wednesday’s letter to the editor regarding so-called gay marriage and how those of us who are not in favor of it are hypocrites. The reasoning is that some people marry twice and the writer believes this is a sin. His logic dictates that if one sin is acceptable, then so is his. He fails to emphasize that homosexuality is a sin (read 1 Corinthians, Chapter 6). In fact, the Bible mentions the fact that it is a sin against one’s own body.
The writer also fails to recognize those of us who have married only once. On what grounds are people like us supposed to accept your sin? The fact is all of us sin. The only one who did not sin on this planet left about 2,000 years ago. He set an example for us to try and follow. Our sins are forgiven because of his death. But that does not mean our sins are acceptable.
I will not accept people because they are homosexual. I will accept them because they are children of God who sin just as I do. “For I do the wicked I do not want to do.” I accept the sinner; not the sin.
The writer seems to think he is my enemy and that Jesus said we should love our enemies. Again, his logic falters. He is not my enemy. He is a man asking me to accept his sin as being OK. The Bible clearly states it is immoral. After the writer accepts it is a sinful act and that sinning is not acceptable to God, then he has room to talk; not before. God’s peace be with the writer.
