Darrington: Permits for Christmas trees
The public can buy permits to cut Christmas trees on the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest today through Dec. 24.
Cutting areas are located on National Forestlands, including those in eastern Snohomish County. Maps and information about cutting areas are provided where permits are sold at the Darrington ranger station and the Verlot Public Service Center.
Permits also are sold at REI’s Alderwood mall store, the only permit sales place where credit cards are accepted. Nonrefundable permits cost $10 for a tree 12 feet or shorter. Trees taller than 12 feet require a special permit at a minimum price of $20.
Getting a tree early before snow falls usually means better access on forest roads.
