Putin then turned to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev before sending him out to meet WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and reminded him to, “Leave the gun, take the blini.”

Come blow your horn: Veteran soccer fans were surprised by Thursday’s announcement that the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments would be played in Russia and Qatar, neither of which have ever qualified a team for the finals.
But in the spirit of sportsmanship, past World Cup hosts pledged to help the two neophytes stage the competitions. South Africa is sending its surplus vuvuzelas, while the United Kingdom will provide both countries with football hooligans.

Arsenic and old space: NASA scientists announced the discovery of a bacterium in the mud of a Californian lake whose DNA contains arsenic rather than the phosphorus common to every other living thing on Earth, increasing the likelihood of life elsewhere in the universe.
Given a few million years to evolve, the mud-dwelling, poisonous bacteria is expected to announce its intention to run for Congress.
