Toys for naught?

Published 10:39 pm Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Hey elves, get cracking! The Snohomish County Toys for Tots program is drastically behind in its goal to provide gifts for 27,000 children this Christmas, with only about 5,800 toys collected so far. Boeing and its employees were expected to be a major supplier, but its donations have fallen short, too.

Boeing blamed the shortfall on production problems in its worldwide supply chain, specifically a toy parts factory at the North Pole.

Watch where you’re pointing that thing: The state has agreed to transfer 150 acres of forestland along the Sultan Basin Road to Snohomish County for the purpose of establishing a public shooting range. The proposal has upset a nudist group whose property is a mile away from the proposed gun range.

It does kind of work against the whole nudist ethic if you have to walk around wearing a hunter-orange vest.

Do you want to know a secret? It just gets bleaker for Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, who is in jail in London after being denied bail as he fights extradition to Sweden to face a sex-crimes investigation.

On top of that, WikiLeaks seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel of its trove of secrets. Yesterday’s releases included Assange’s diary from the fifth grade, a Seattle Seahawks playbook and the 11 herbs and spices for KFC’s Original Recipe chicken.
