John Becanic back in the head-coaching game

Former Silvertips head coach John Becanic has landed another head-coaching job. Becanic is taking the reins of the NAHL’s Wenatchee Wild, resigning his assistant position with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants today.

Becanic, whose family still lives in Snohomish, spent six seasons as a coach in Everett, serving as Kevin Constantine’s lead assistant for four seasons before inheriting the head spot. He spent two seasons as Everett’s head coach before being dismissed following the 2008-09 season. He spent last season as an assistant with the Seattle Thunderbirds before taking the position with the Giants before this season.

This job sort of brings Becanic’s coaching career full circle. He served as head coach of the NAHL’s Pittsburgh Forge — with Constantine as the general manager — immediately prior to coming to Everett. That season the now-defunct Forge went 43-9-4 and won the regular season championship.

Congratulations to Becanic on his new position. Hopefully this gets his coaching career back on the rise. And it allows Becanic to be a head coach while still being close enough to keep tabs on his daughters’ youth soccer careers first-hand.
