The Boeing Co. announced a strategic alliance with Fujitsu Friday that it hopes will boost its aircraft maintenance business.
Boeing plans to use Fujutsu technologies and tools, including radio frequency identification devices, to tailor maintenance to a specific airline fleet.
“We have been working with Boeing for more than five years to promote RFID implementation in the aviation industry and we are very excited to start this project jointly,” Mitsutoshi Hirono, corporate vice president Fujitsu Limited, said in a prepared statement.
The service, scheduled to start in 2012, will be offered to all aircraft, not just Boeing fleets.
It will be tested with a launch customer before 2012.
