Against all odds

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is trying hard to be ready for Sunday’s must-win game against the Rams, but Coach Pete Carroll says it would be “miraculous” if Hasselbeck’s aching hip region were to heal in time.

Backup Charlie Whitehurst’s play hasn’t exactly inspired confidence. At this point, Hasselbeck could be in a coma and Carroll would be at his bedside asking, “Do you think you can play?”

Speaking of miracles: The Husky football team hopes to cap its season with a victory over Nebraska in tonight’s Holiday Bowl.

If you watched Nebraska demolish the UW in September, you might think the Dawgs have suffered enough indignity, but the Cornhuskers are ready for more. Look for a new play where they hold the ball high over their heads and taunt any Huskies who try to take it away.

Now hiring: It may feel like nobody’s adding workers, but in fact U.S. companies are putting tons of new jobs on the payroll. It’s just that most of those jobs happen to be overseas.
