As Peter Callaghan of The News Tribune reminded us today, Randy Dorn has not always opposed the idea of making the superintendent of public instruction an appointed position.
In 2008, in a debate with then state schools chief Terry Bergeson, Dorn said he would “support a constitutional amendment” to make the change.
In the debate, Dorn said he felt the governor is now responsible for education and that he believed voters assume when they elect a governor, that person is in charge of all the departments of government.
Here’s TVW coverage. Dorn’s comments are at 00:57:16
