We’re all familiar with free samples of the latest food products at the supermarket. Now comes free samples of wine.

The wine tasting areas include the obligatory spit bucket — something we wish had been available when we accepted the nice ladies’ offer of some of the more bizarre concoctions of the food science industry.

• Little to no debt.

• Six months of emergency savings.

• Twelve months of living expenses to run your household.

• The first year of operating expenses for your business.

In other words, if you want to start your own business, you’d better start playing the lottery.

Making history: Today in Chicago, the Seahawks go for their first road playoff win since 1983, an era recalled by Hawks fans for those glorious Steve Largent touchdown catches and Dave Krieg fumbles.

If Seattle prevails today, fans 30 years from now will reminisce about that glorious .500 record going into the NFC title game.
