DARRINGTON — Kids Place needs help from the community.
Darrington Kids Place is an Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program funded in part by the state, the federal Department of Agriculture, United Way of Snohomish County and other social service organizations.
The nonprofit school and day care center serves 48 children. About half are preschoolers and toddlers. The remainder go to Kids Place for after-school care and programs. The facility is located at 1063 Fir Street adjacent to the Darrington schools campus.
Early childhood education teacher Jennifer Nations said Kids Place is in need of a solid-color, full-sized couch and a solid-color recliner. The furniture will be used primarily by teachers for reading to children.
In addition, the school could use a 4-foot bookshelf to house the center’s book collection, and donations of clean, new clothes for preschoolers ages 2 through 6.
Officials at the state Department of Early Learning say that Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs such as Darrington Kids Place provide free and low-cost services and support to eligible children and their families. The goal of both programs is to help ensure all children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. The program includes family support and parental involvement as well as child health coordination and nutrition programs.
