SHORELINE — Janie Uppinghouse scored 27 points, including a string of three consecutive 3-pointers in a crucial stretch of the third quarter, as Shorecrest earned a 67-56 Wesco 3A girls basketball win on Wednesday night at Shorecrest High School.
The win keeps the Scots (9-2 league, 10-7 overall) on pace with Lynnwood for the league lead with Shorecrest holding the tiebreaker after beating the Royals twice this season.
Uppinghouse helped Shorecrest extend a seven-point halftime lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter — enough to stave off a ferocious Meadowdale (6-4, 8-7) comeback that closed the gap to six points with about 21/2 minutes remaining on the clock.
“That was a key quarter for us,” Shorecrest head coach Dori Monson said of outscoring the Mavericks 19-6 in the third quarter.
Bri Lasconia added 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a well-rounded game for the Scots and 6-foot-1 forward India Matheson recorded her seventh consecutive double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Margreet Barhoum scored a team-high 25 points for the Mavericks, mostly on pull-up jumpshots, Monson said. She scored 13 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter.
“We really made sure we extended out on her,” Monson said. “We made sure we knew where she was. She’s a great scorer, we did a pretty good job marking her up until that fourth quarter.”
