Boeing picks New Breed to provide logistics in S.C.

The Boeing Co. will rely on New Breed Logistics Inc. for support at its North Charleston, S.C. site, the companies announced Thursday.

New Breed will receive and store inventory on Boeing’s 787 as well as kit, package and transport 787 parts, tools, and supplies to designated locations within Boeing’s North Charleston assembly facility.

Boeing is establishing a second 787 final assembly line in South Carolina.

Boeing riled its Machinists union in 2006 when it selected New Breed, a North Carolina-based company, for logistics support on the 787 at its Everett site. At the time, Machinists leaders said the work should be done by union members not an outside contractor.

However, Boeing workers at the South Carolina site ousted union representation there in September 2009, shortly before Boeing selected North Charleston over Everett as the location of its second 787 line.
