An app a day

I’m a Mac: Those of us without an iPhone or iPad have had to scratch our heads when talk turned to the newest app for the tech devices. But Apple now has opened an App Store for the rest of us, at least those with Mac computers. The Mac App Store offers many of the same apps reformatted for desktops and laptops.

The drawback is you’re still going to look silly playing “Angry Birds” on a desktop you dragged onto the bus for your commute to work.

Yer outta there! Spring training is still a couple of weeks away, but players already are running the base paths and shagging fly balls at the Seattle Mariners’ spring home in Peoria, Ariz. But these players are paying for the privilege of getting chewed out at the annual fantasy camp.

OK, the only time a fantasy camp player actually got chewed out was when Bobby Ayala snuck in hoping to make a comeback bid.

How ’bout getting some coffee for the pointy-haired boss? After more than 70 years of making deadlines, “girl reporter” Brenda Starr has left the funny pages. The comic strip’s creators decided to end the strip earlier this month.

Unfortunately for Brenda, because her paper’s pension fund went broke and her 401(k) tanked, instead of retirement, she’s taken a temp job with the “Dilbert” strip.
