Place your bets

Turns out I can drive 55: Allegiant Air, a Las Vegas-based airline, will allow its passengers to place a bet on what they pay for their airfare, giving them a choice between a fixed-price ticket or one that will adjust, up or down, depending on the price of fuel on the day of the flight.

Truthfully, it’s no different than the game of chance we play each time we fill up at the gas station and choose between filling up the tank or putting in $5 and hoping the price will be lower tomorrow.

We have another winner: Mel Gibson, the Oscar-winning actor and suspected misogynist, homophobe and anti-Semite, is expected to plead guilty today to misdemeanor battery charges in a plea deal, stemming from a fight last year with his then-girlfriend.

As part of the plea deal, Gibson will avoid jail time but is barred from having any contact with Charlie Sheen.

Klaatu barada nikto: A UFO mystery in Vancouver, Wash., has been solved. Reports of an object with brightly colored lights that hovered above homes proved to be a large kite, 7 1/2 feet by 13 feet, with flashing LED lights.

The kite’s owner, little Billy Bleegorf of Omnichron 6, said that in the future he will file a flight plan with the Galactic Aviation Administration before flying his kite.
