Prep softball: Lakewood 15, Meridian 5 (6 innings)

BELLINGHAM — Kiana Smith broke open a 4-4 tie in the top of the fourt inning with a grand slam that sent Lakewood (1-0) to a victory in a nonleague game shortened by the 10-run rule. Kortney Fritz (1-0) pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits. Fritz also batted 2-for-4 with three RBI. Arianna Barrio collected three of the Cougars’ 12 hits and scored three runs.
