LAKE STEVENS — The coaches expected a pitcher’s. Instead they got an offensive fireworks display with Lake Stevens’ early explosion outshined by Jackson, which kept the blasts coming throughout the nonleague baseball game on the way to a 13-8 victory Tuesday at Lake Stevens H.S.

Lake Stevens jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning and led 7-4 after two, but the Vikings’ offense then tapered off before resurfacing for a run in the bottom of the seventh.

“We swung the bats pretty well,” Lake Stevens coach Rodger Anderson said. “We just seemed to let down with the intensity after getting the early lead.”

The Vikings (1-2 overall) outhit the Timberwolves (2-0) 15-11 and JT Cox led the way, batting 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Brandon Fiske and Christian Gasca both added a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.

Dylan Lavelle (1-1) took the loss for Lake Stevens, which surrendered 11 walks and committed four errors. Vikings pitchers gave up just six earned runs.

Timberwolves catcher Kyle Olson blasted a three-run homer and a double in four at bats. Third baseman Joakim Soderquist chipped in two singles and two runs scored.

“Our goal was to schedule the best teams in the South to get us prepared for our league season,” Anderson said. “It was good for us to face a pretty good team. I’m sure Jackson’s going to be right at the top.”
