MUKILTEO — In a back-and-forth game full of plenty of chances, the Kamiak boys soccer team converted just enough and held on down the stretch to win its first game of the season with a 2-1 Wesco South victory over Edmonds-Woodway Tuesday.
The Knights, who had been outscored 12-3 in their first three games, had a solid defensive effort and just enough offense to improve to 1-1 in the league, 1-3 overall.
“It was a good game with a lot of chances by both teams,” Kamiak coach Garfield Scott said. “It was good to see us hold on. Our defense was much better than it has been.”
Jordan Myers helped deliver the victory to Kamiak. Tyler Uddin finished off a Myers pass in the 18th minutes to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes into the second half, Myers scored on a diving header from Matt Simmons for the all-important insurance goal for Kamiak.
“It was a great finish,” Scott said.
Edmonds-Woodway continued to attack, finally breaking through in the 88th minute when senior forward Cameron Berlin-Day scored on a header to get the Warriors (1-1, 1-2) within one.
