Prep softball: South Whidbey 8, Lakewood 5

LANGLEY — South Whidbey (1-0 league, 1-0 overall) collected five of its 10 hits in a five-run sixth inning. Katie Piehler (2-1) went the distance and fanned seven against no walks to collect the win. Kortney Fritz took the loss for Lakewood (1-1). Alex Kubeska hit 2-for-3 with a triple and Shantel Brown batted 3-for-4 with a pair of runs to lead the Falcons in the Cascade Conference game. On the Lakewood side, Adriana Barrio batted 3-for-4 with a double and Kiana Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple.
