EVERETT — Everett fell three runs behind to Mountlake Terrace, but as has been the norm this season, the Seagulls found a way to win.
The 5-4 victory Tuesday at Lincoln Field kept Everett atop the Wesco 3A softball standings.
Everett coach Kyle Peacocke said he and his team had been l
ooking forward to this one for awhile.
“If Terrace wins the game, you pretty much have a three way tie (for first),” Peacocke said.
A four-run sixth inning against Hawks pitcher Rene Bos, who took the loss, proved to be the difference for Everett. Bailee Wetmore led off and was hit by a pitch. CJ Shaver, who hit 2-for-3 with a triple, singled. Two outs and a Hawk error later, Kiki Harper, Lexie Levin and Choloe Kesterson all roped RBI singles to give Everett all the runs it would need. Kesterson went 2-for-4 with a double and the game-winning RBI.
Levin, Everett’s lefty No. 1 starter, struggled, giving up nine hits and four runs before giving way to Abbey Facey. The righty held the Hawks to a single hit over the final four innings.
“Abby came in and did a really nice job,” Peacocke said, “…This is a good win for us.”
