EVERETT — The Meadowdale baseball team didn’t do any one thing extraordinarily well in its 11-5 victory over Everett Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium, but did enough to get the win, an important one in the final stretch of the Wesco 3A season where practically every team in the league is still jockeying for a playoff spot or better seed.
“We felt like we did what we needed to do this week. It (the win) puts us right in the thick of things,” said Meadowdale coach Bill Hummel about his teams’ postseason prospects after the win. “This should get us in, the important thing is to get in. When you get to postseason baseball, anything can happen.”
Meadowdale had 12 hits in the game, with solid efforts coming from John Boone, who hit 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Riley Bykona, who went 2-for-3 also with an RBI. Nathan Ball batted 2-for-3 with two runs for the Mavericks.
Both starting pitchers had tough outings. Bryce Clemenson, Everett’s starting pitcher, allowed three first-inning runs. Meadowdale starter Sam Trice allowed four Everett runs in the second inning, at one point walking four straight batters all of whom would score.
Meadowdale tacked on five runs in the fourth, with Riley Bykonen capping his teams’ five-hit inning with an RBI single.
