Everett: SBX radar vessel going to Seattle

The Missile Defense Agency’s Sea-Based X-band Radar vessel should arrive in Puget Sound in the near future — but it’s headed toward Seattle, not Everett.

The agency had considered placing it in on Everett’s waterfront temporarily for maintenance and upgrades. Instead, officials decided to have the work done at Vigor Shipyard in Seattle, formerly Todd Pacific Shipyards.

That work should begin mid-May and will take about three months.

The radar will not operate while in the shipyard and all vessel movements and work associated with the SBX are compliant with environmental, health and hazard laws, according to a release issued by the agency.

The event at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds showcased more than 50 booths featuring outdoor recreation.
