ARLINGTON — A showdown for first place in the Wesco North went to the Tommies as Riley Fritz pitched a complete-game shutout to carry Marysville Pilchuck past Arlington 7-0 Tuesday.
“(Fritz) did a good job,” Arlington head coach Lonnie Hicks said. “We hit a lot of ground balls so she had som
e good tail on her ball. She shut us out, I don’t think anybody has held us without a run this whole season. That was definitely a first.”
The Tomahawks, however, were also held without a run through four innings as the game entered the fifth a scoreless tie. With one out, Marysville received a single and a hit batter to put runners on first and second. Megan Rollings stepped in next and laced a triple into the gap for two RBI and Haley Fritz followed with a double to bring Rollings home. By the end of the inning, Marysville had notched five hits and tallied four runs to give Fritz the breathing room she needed. Mp tacked on another three runs in the sixth.
“We’re looking forward to play Marysville again, that’s for sure. We’re 1-1 against them now and I think we’re very evenly matched team,” Hicks added. “Sometimes the ball just bounces the other way.”
